Admission requirements at a glance

Admission is based on formal academic and language requirements. The overview below shows which qualification and language certificates you need for your application.

University entrance qualification

You need a recognised university entrance qualification. If it was obtained abroad, your certificate is assessed through uni-assist and you require a preliminary review documentation (VPD).

uni-assist / VPD

English: B1 CEFR

English proficiency at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages must be demonstrated with the application.

German: A1 CEFR

German A1 must be demonstrated by the end of the first semester. If your university entrance qualification was obtained in German, both language requirements are considered fulfilled.

Native English speakers and applicants with an English-taught school or academic qualification may submit confirmation from their school or university that the qualification was completed in English.

Application in seven steps

Check academic eligibility

Confirm whether your school-leaving qualification provides access to a Bachelor's degree in Germany. Recognition depends on the country, qualification and documents. Some applicants may need an additional preparatory route.

Confirm language requirements

Check accepted English tests, minimum scores and possible exemptions for the relevant application cycle. Book a test early and make sure the result will be available before the deadline.

Prepare documents

Collect certificates, transcripts, language evidence, passport copy and additional forms. Verify whether certified copies or translations are required and use complete, readable files.

Submit the application

Complete every field in the official portal, upload documents in the requested format and submit before the applicable deadline. Save confirmation messages and check the portal and email regularly.

Follow the admission process

The university reviews your application and may request additional evidence. Respond promptly. Admission is only possible when the application is complete and all current requirements are met.

Organise the visa and financing

If a visa is required, consult the German mission responsible for your location and book an appointment early. Typical topics include admission, proof of financing, health insurance and passport validity.

Prepare enrollment and arrival

Accept the offer, complete enrollment, arrange accommodation and plan travel to Kempten. Keep essential documents available and note orientation, semester and authority appointments.

Document planning

Requirements vary, but applicants should be prepared to organise the following categories. Only the official checklist is binding.

Academic documents

  • School-leaving certificate
  • Subject and grade overview
  • Previous university records, where applicable
  • Required recognition or evaluation documents

Language and identity

  • Accepted English-language evidence
  • Passport or identity document
  • Certified translations where required
  • Application forms and declarations

After admission

  • Enrollment documents and payment
  • Health-insurance confirmation
  • Visa and financing evidence
  • Housing and travel arrangements

Visa guidance

Visa rules depend on nationality and individual circumstances. Use the German Federal Foreign Office and the responsible German mission as primary sources. Do not rely on another student's case as proof that the same rule applies to you.
